International Open Tournament | WC2018 Update

It’s been an amazing few days for the Northbridge Knockouts who are representing Australia at #fisac2018 in Shanghai.

Acclimatising has been one of the biggest challenges the Aussie team has faced - the Chinese International Open Tournament kicked off on Wednesday, July 25, in 37C heat!

Among the highlights on the first day of competition were watching a Chinese women’s team smash the world record for individual speed relay - with an unofficial 639!

The crowd were also blown away by the skills and determination of the Iranian women’s team. Cheers filled the stadium every time they performed their routines, with some really unique, fantastic moves on display.

Team Fusion overcame challenges including injuries and distance training to compete and were brilliant to watch on the floor, coming 8th overall.

During the second day of competition, Maya performed her freestyle routine and came 11th!

When not competing or training, the Knockouts have been sightseeing on The Bund and sampling delicious dumplings at a restaurant near our team hotel.

It’s also been fascinating to get a taste of life on campus at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, where the championships are being held.

Thank you for all the messages of support we’ve been getting from Australia.
