Masters Day | WC2018 Update

It was an incredible day of skipping at the World Masters yesterday with 24 Australians competing, including three Northbridge Knockouts.

Robbie Graham, Jeremy English and Camryn Gibson all put in strong performances that included some great skills. It was a very proud moment to watch them all on the competition floor.

Australia took out two medals, including Luke Boon scoring Gold for Triple Unders and Lilly Barker winning Bronze for three-minute speed.

Both competitors collapsed immediately following their events, with Luke having to be carried from the floor. Fortunately Luke and Lilly recovered and were on the podium to receive their medals last night.

There were some stunning performances throughout the long day of competition - the Japanese rope spinning skills had the crowd roaring.

China’s speed Skipping was also incredible - Xiaolin Cen, for example, scored Male Masters Gold for both 30 second and three minute with 113 and 568 respectively.

The Gold freestyle medals went to Klaas Van Mechelen from Belgium and Anna Uhl from Germany. There were gasps, cheers and wild applause for both routines.

The audience also threw their support behind the single Russian competitor, who performed a unique, ballet-inspired routine.

Behind the scenes, many new international friendships were formed and lots of toy koalas were exchanged!

Last night, Swedes and Aussies packed out a local pub near the competition venue to share pizzas and burgers together and toast the day.

Team Events Finished | WC2018 Update

It has been an amazing few days since the opening ceremony of the 2018 World Rope Skipping Championships.

Watching Team Australia march out onto the floor was such a proud moment for all the parents and supporters in the audience.

China put on an incredible show for the crowd, filled with flying cheerleaders, adorably talented 6-year-old skippers and even a group of 60-year-old women performing a synchronised “square dancing” routine with rubber balls.

Some of the fastest skippers in the world also took part in a speed-off for the dazzled crowd. At one point it was incredible to watch five speed skippers go through their paces in a long rope.

All the Northbridge competitors - Team Sapphire, Cobalt and Teal - did us proud.
Among their results were:
- Sapphire achieving 4th in Double Dutch Pair.
- Cobalt achieving 5th in 4x30 Seconds Speed with a score of 370!
- Teal achieving 6th in Double Dutch Single.

It was also great to see Aussies on the winning podium, including Cleveland Air Magic's (CAM) Australia 1 winning 1st overall, as well as Australia 62 from Bayside, Australia 3 and 32 from CAM and a few individuals earning medals for different events.

The heat continues to be pretty crushing, which has made rehearsals - and sightseeing - challenging at times. But Shanghai is a vibrant, fascinating city.

Everyone has loved the chance to watch some of the best skippers in the world perform and make new friends behind the scenes.

We’re looking forward to the last few days of competition.

International Open Tournament | WC2018 Update

It’s been an amazing few days for the Northbridge Knockouts who are representing Australia at #fisac2018 in Shanghai.

Acclimatising has been one of the biggest challenges the Aussie team has faced - the Chinese International Open Tournament kicked off on Wednesday, July 25, in 37C heat!

Among the highlights on the first day of competition were watching a Chinese women’s team smash the world record for individual speed relay - with an unofficial 639!

The crowd were also blown away by the skills and determination of the Iranian women’s team. Cheers filled the stadium every time they performed their routines, with some really unique, fantastic moves on display.

Team Fusion overcame challenges including injuries and distance training to compete and were brilliant to watch on the floor, coming 8th overall.

During the second day of competition, Maya performed her freestyle routine and came 11th!

When not competing or training, the Knockouts have been sightseeing on The Bund and sampling delicious dumplings at a restaurant near our team hotel.

It’s also been fascinating to get a taste of life on campus at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, where the championships are being held.

Thank you for all the messages of support we’ve been getting from Australia.

Counting down to the 2018 Australian Rope Skipping Championships

ais-2.jpg

It's less than 20 days until the Northbridge Knockouts compete at the 2018 Australian Rope Skipping Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Held from June 9-11, 2018, more than 270 athletes will be attending this year, ensuring a thrilling three days of skipping.

It's particularly exciting event for our contingent heading to the World Championships, with a Team Australia Day being held on Friday, June 8, prior to the 2018 Australian Rope Skipping Championships .

The event is a wonderful opportunity to unite Team Australia and allow them to bond, learn and socialise collectively before heading overseas as a national squad in July.

Skipping Australia has engaged with a number of sporting professionals to put together a program that will form the inaugural event for Team Australia and provide a learning opportunity for our athletes, coaches and officials.

The program will deliver advice from allied sports specialists and include topics from the following disciplines:

• Elite Athlete Management/Athlete Strength Training

• Sports Chiropractic

• Sports Psychology (The mental side of competition)

• Injury Prevention and Management

• Dietician – sports focused (pre-championship, championship, recovery)

• Australian Anti Doping Agency

• Dedicated Worlds Team Training (60 mins)

Thank you Skipping Australia for all the hard work involved in organising the day.
